SUMMARY OF THOUGHTS: The storytelling may not be as strong as its predecessor but in terms of thrills, action and excitement, Thor: The Dark World is a major improvement. The humor is hit-or-miss but the performances are enjoyable, with Tom Hiddleston as Loki stealing the show.

The storytelling isn’t as strong as the original and it really caters more to comic book readers but there was plenty of well done action, style, excitement and witty performances – Tom Hiddleston as Loki being the standout – that kept me entertained throughout and gave me the experience I wanted.

This is how you do a Marvel sequel! As a Thor fan of the comics and movies, I loved every minute of it! There was more action, more realms to travel and more humor. Hemsworth and Hiddleston make the movie! The only detract is that Malekith is a weak villain but aside from that it’s a great sequel to the first Thor. I loved it more than the first film and I will see it again and again. Thor: the Dark World is easily my favorite solo Avenger movie.
- Adam Bilbrey (Modern Film Critic)
Extremely boring with some fun action moments with visuals better than the first. The first 45 minutes detracted at (what could have been) a great payoff. I wasn’t fully connected and invested with the story, but it was fun. Other than that, the comedic elements were horrible and were slightly embarrassing. Some clever moments worked, but other than that, it was just silly. I could tell Joss Whedon had to do with some of the writing. Oh, how I despise that man.
- Joe Cauwel (Cauwel3)
All in all another fun flick from Marvel. Great supporting Asgarding character’s especially Loki. The humans feel a little like a sitcom. But the biggest problem is the plot. The idea that they were fighting over ether says a lot because there is not much there. Just another alien invasion. Oh, I mean Elves.

One of the best films I’ve seen this year. It was a complete blast. A ton of amazing and MARVELous fun from start to finish. A major improvement over the very mediocre and disappointing original Thor film. This sequel is awesome in every way with it’s visually stunning action sequences, fantastic storytelling, excellent sense of humor, great performances, cool villain, and beautiful cinematography with amazing camera angles. We get more Asgard which is awesome to see as well. I was sucked in the film the whole time and it brought a big happy smile to my face. It’s refreshing, it’s hilarious, it’s magnificent, and it’s one of the best superhero films I’ve ever seen. Loki is awesome, Natalie Portman is beautiful, Chris Hemsworth IS Thor, Anthony Hopkins and Idris Elba are great, and I didn’t mind Kat Dennings. A true superhero film that needs to be seen in theaters. One of the best sequels I’ve ever seen in my life
- Chad Gleason (MovieManCHAD)
Not as fun and memorable as the 1st film, but after the 45 min mark, the film started to find its footing and even though the story is weak and confusing, I had fun watching the 2nd hour.

The first Thor was enjoyable but I wanted more Asgard, more sci-fi/fantasy elements in it and a bit more action. You get all of that in Thor: The Dark World. I totally got into this movie. It especially picks up when Loki appears. Hiddleston just owns this part and really elevates every scene. On the whole, I felt I got my moneys worth and for me it was the most entertaining comic book movie this year.
- John Maffeo (Maffman Jones)
For a time, my conscious was fighting to grasp onto something remotely compelling. But then out of nowhere, the intensity and adventure grew along with my enjoyment of this Marvel film. The dialogue is abundant, the comedy is inconsistent, and the action is uniquely incredible. The story isn’t the best but the acting from the Asgardians more than makes up for it! And although the departure of Patrick Doyle saddened me, Brian Tyler’s new musical score elevates the experience with an epic theme! It’s full of flaws, but Thor: The Dark World might just be my favorite comic book movie of the year!
- Matt Marshall (MNMreviews)
“Thor: The Dark World” is a bait-and switch from its trailers, leading audiences to believe that Marvel has upped their game from Phase 1 when it simply hasn’t. The second chapter is mildly entertaining focusing heavier on dense action than character progression. But at least, there’s Tom Hiddleston to save the day and the film.
- Scott Menzel (MovieManMenzel)
Thor 2 feels really more like filler than an actual sequel. The entire first half of the film is a sloppy mess filled with bad cgi, below average acting, and some awful dialogue. The second half of the film is redeeming and that is because of two things: Loki and the over the top battle scene. The film as a whole is weaker than the first but will more than likely please the fanboys and fan girls despite it being a rather poorly executed sequel.

A great sequel to a great origin story. Chris Hemsworth totally owns the role of Thor. I literally cannot see anyone else playing Thor now. Tom Hiddleston kicks even more ass as Loki. The action scenes are even better and I love how the look of Asgard has improved over the first one. Only flaw was that Kat Dennings was annoying as hell. Otherwise it’s a great superhero film. Can’t wait for Thor 3 and Avengers 2!
- Callum Slater
Bolstered by great performances from Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, and some awesome supporting characters (Anthony Hopkins and Idris Elba), this is a visually spectacular, action packed, clever, creative and well written superhero film and superior to Iron Man 3. While it was slow at points and some of the jokes don’t hit and the villain just do anything, while Christopher Eccleston was great as Doctor Who, he has nothing to do here. But it’s enjoyable and has many great moments in it and the best Superhero movie of the year.

I had a blast with this film and I think I liked it more than the first Thor. The visuals, the music, the action, the humor (most of it) and the acting was great. Tom Hiddleston is of course, the best again, he owns this movie. Kat Dennings wasn’t good again. Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman are both excellent in this film. It’s an enjoyable time at the movies and it’s strange why we get this movie in November instead of the summer. It’s worth the money, folks! This movie will please Marvel fans and Thor fans.
- William Bond Nunn:
Definitely enjoyed the hell out of this one. Minus the fact that the story wasn’t as strong as the first, in my opinion, and Malketh and Darcy’s characters weren’t that interesting nor great, the film has great acting, visual style, music, special effects, and humor all around. Its a very enjoyable blockbuster that will please Thor fans and people who thought the 1st Thor film didn’t have enough action in it. There’s definitely enough action to please anyone and if the mid credits scene confuses you, just ask me about it. Its quite cool
