Scott Menzel was born and raised in the great state of New Jersey. His love of film started when he was 10 years old after seeing “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” for the first time in 1993. Since then his love, appreciation, and knowledge of film expanded. In 2004, Scott packed up bags and flew across the country to Orange, California to major in film at Chapman University. Sadly, after a year and a half of film school, he had to travel back to the East Coast and finished up his degree at Rowan University, where he currently holds a BA degree in Communications with a Media Emphasis. He is currently attending Kutztown University looking to achieve his Masters in Media.
In early 2000, Scott got introduced to independent film during a trip to Los Angeles. He instantly feel in love with this type of film-making and was intrigued by the fact these films were mostly character and story driven. Needless to say, Scott grew a deep appreciation for “Indie” films as an art form and since then has traveled near and far to explore the world of independent cinema.
In 2002, Scott started writing reviews for various websites including IMDB.com and Joblo.com. After many years of freelance writing, he was hired to write for a website called Teensay, which is based in the UK. Scott wrote various entertainment and film articles as well as reviews for movies, CDs, and video games for the site. He wrote for Teensay for about two years before he left to work the normal “9 to 5” gig, but continued to do freelance writing mainly focusing on independent cinema and movie reviews. Over the past couple of years, Scott has become a film festival “groupie” and has attended several film festivals throughout the United States including SXSW in Austin, TX, Gen Arts Film Festival in NYC, Tribeca in NYC, Cinefest in Philadelphia and The Philadelphia Film Festival in Philadelphia, PA.
After many years of writing and admiring the world of film, Scott decided to create his very own website called MovieManMenzel.com, which is his pen name that he uses since he started writing back in 2002. On his site, you will find the latest reviews in film (mainstream and independent), film festival coverage, photos, celebrity encounters, and a personal blog expressing his views of the film world.
In 2011, Scott officially became a member of the press and is working as an independent journalist. As a journalist, Scott has had the opportunity to meet and interview some of the biggest stars in Independent film world as well as Hollywood. He has met and interviewed Jodie Foster, Paul Giamatti, Amy Ryan, Brit Marling, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Kristen Wiig, and Anton Yelchin just to name a few.
Scott attends press screenings several times a week in Philly with WeLiveFilm’s own Matt “The Movie Analyst.” The two of them are very happy to have created WeLiveFilm, and Scott is delighted to be a part of the new website that brings YouTube film critics and written critics together under one roof.
